This style of yoga pays particular attention to detail. The focus is on attaining correct alignment of the body, so that joints, muscles and organs work at their optimum. The poses are held for considerable time allowing the effects to penetrate and strength to develop.  Props are used to explore poses further or as an aide to correcting alignment.

Ashtanga Yoga

Pattabi Jois, Mysore  India

A specific order of poses is practiced linked with a series of flows and jumpings from one posture to another. Emphasis is on the movement with breath and there are three places of action and attention. 1). The bandhas or body locks 2) the breath and 3) the gaze.  Ashtanga yoga is a physically demanding form of yoga, building up heat in the body to increase flexibility. Get Stretched

This is using stretching, strengthening and re-patterning to optimise physical and mental functions.  Get Stretched targets the muscle groups that limit flexibility. By contracting/relaxing methods these muscles are strengthened or loosened to increase range of movement.
