The Teacher Training module is an intensive 5 days of yoga asana, pranayama, theory and practical aspects based on the Iyengar Yoga methodology

It is designed for teacher development, but also suitable for enthusiastic, experienced practitioners wishing to learn about Iyengar Yoga ~ it’s detail, precision and alignment of the the body, its use of props and the integration of the koshas in the practice of yoga.

The Teaching Training module offers those already teaching the means to accrue CPD points with Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance and is open to all yoga practitioners regardless of your particular discipline.  It is not suitable for beginners.

The facilitator is Jan Watson, who is a senior teacher with Yoga Australia, a certified Intermediate Iyengar Yoga Teacher and a 500 gold designated teacher with Yoga Alliance. She has been teaching since 1991.

Topics include:

Techniques and Practice:                                                       

  • Correct placement of the body, vital sites and fulcrum of movement in practice   
  • Categories of asanas and their effects
  • Led Practice, incorporating correct structural alignment, the ‘how to do’ aspects of getting into a pose, coming out of a pose and what to do whilst in the pose                        
  • Supervised Personal Practice – 6 practice sequences are included
  • The use of props to perfect asanas

Teaching Methodology:                                                                   

  • Terminology of actions                                                              
  • The art of observing; seeing and understanding different bodies, their shapes and condition                                                                                  
  • Awareness of how to work correctly to avoid joint pain          
  • Recognising energy lines within each pose

Anatomy and Physiology:                                                                   

  • Functional anatomy with focus on the spine, the shoulder girdle and upper arms and the psoas muscle in asana practice                              
  • Functional Energies – the dosas and their significance in yoga      
  • Physiological Energies – the Heart and Lungs

Yoga Philosophy:                                                                                      

  • Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and Iyengar yoga                           
  • The koshas

Study Material and notes are provided

Yoga mats and other yoga props are provided. Cost includes accommodation for 4 nights, 4 evening meals, 4 morning juices, brunch on Sunday. Lunches are self catered; bring your own food and use the downstairs kitchen or order meals from Sanctuary’s restaurant
